Keith Nelson is a visionary with an unwavering commitment to sustainability and renewable energy. Demonstrating his dedication, he installed an impressive 8 kW state-of-the-art solar energy system on his home, serving as an inspiring example to his local community in High Springs, Florida, and to the visitors he engages from around the world at Camp Kulaqua.
Inspiring a Solar-Powered Future
Keith Nelson, General Manager for Camp Kulaqua, located amidst the breathtaking spring water flowing from underground into the Santa Fe River of High Springs, Florida, has cultivated a deep appreciation for clean solar energy. His role at Camp Kulaqua has shaped his understanding of preserving God’s creation and embracing sustainable practices.
Keith’s conviction in the power of solar energy motivated him to make a sustainable choice for his home. He recognized the significance of reducing his family’s carbon footprint and embracing renewable energy, so he embarked on a solar journey by installing an 8 kW rooftop solar panel system on his High Springs, Florida, home. By taking this step, Keith exemplified his dedication to a cleaner and greener environment and became a source of inspiration for his staff, community, and visitors to Camp Kulaqua.
As manager for Camp Kulaqua, Keith oversees the operations of a renowned retreat and conference center. His deep appreciation for the beauty of God’s creation and his commitment to a sustainable future have positioned him as a true advocate for clean energy.
In a recent video interview, Keith shared his positive experiences and journey of going solar with PPM Solar. When reflecting on his motivation, he explained, “When I built my home, I wanted to take advantage of opportunities that could benefit me in the long run. With the rising energy prices, I decided to reach out to PPM Solar to design and install an 8 kW solar array on my roof.” A decision that he enthusiastically declares to be fantastic.
The Savings of Going Solar
The impact of the solar installation was immediate and impressive. Keith witnessed a significant reduction in his monthly electricity bills. “After moving into my new home, I noticed my electric bills were averaging between $250 and $300 per month. However, once the solar power system was connected, I saw a significant difference. In the first month alone, my bill dropped from $272 to $75,” Keith shared.
Eager to optimize his energy consumption, Keith uses the free Wi-Fi app provided with his solar system to monitor its performance. He achieved notable energy independence by adjusting his pool pump usage to four hours a day and adjusting his air conditioner settings. “On sunny days, I have been able to achieve between 65% and 80% energy independence, and on fully cloudy days, I still maintain between 35% and 45% independence. Even with some months of poor energy control, my average energy independence remains around 50%,” Keith revealed.
When it came to educating himself about going solar, Keith conducted internet research. Still, he found the insights from a friend in the Tampa area, who had already embraced solar energy, to be most valuable. In addition to personal discussions, Keith received comprehensive education and guidance from PPM Solar’s knowledgeable consultants throughout the process. They clarified interactions with the power company and informed Keith about the positive impact of installing solar energy on his tax bill through the federal tax credit program.
During the decision-making process, Keith carefully evaluated multiple proposals from solar installation contractors. Ultimately, he chose PPM Solar due to its exceptional clarity, meticulous planning, and understanding of his specific needs. “PPM Solar stood out as the clearest and best option. They provided a comprehensive understanding of what would fit on my roof, projected energy costs based on my square footage, and explained how net metering would work. That level of clarity and future planning led me to choose PPM Solar,” Keith affirmed.
Keith Nelson’s experience with PPM Solar and the successful installation of his 8 kW solar array is a testament to the positive impact of going solar and the benefits of informed decision-making. As he continues to lead Camp Kulaqua and inspire others, Keith Nelson remains a shining example of embracing sustainable practices and the boundless potential of clean solar energy.
