Commercial Solar Installation Portfolio
The Malachowsky Hall for Data Science & Information Technology
PPM Solar installed a 162 kW solar system at the University of Florida’s $150 million Malachowsky Hall for Data Science & Information Technology, developed in partnership with NVIDIA. The system uses high-efficiency bifacial Mono PERC modules from Canadian Solar to maximize energy output. Integrated into UF’s broader sustainability strategy, the project supports the university’s leadership in AI and high-performance computing. PPM Solar joined the planning process over five years before construction, working closely with the development team to ensure optimal roof utilization and seamless system integration.
San Felasco Tech City
PPM Solar is developing a 2 MW solar energy system—expanding to 4 MW—at San Felasco Tech City, a sustainable live-work-play community in Alachua, Florida. The system includes over 12,000 panels across rooftops, parking structures, and solar trees, generating enough electricity to power approximately 500 homes. This long-term partnership with Mitch Glaeser and Scherer Construction spans over seven years and represents one of North Florida’s largest community-scale solar deployments. The project offsets emissions equal to burning 4.5 million pounds of coal annually and supports economic growth, environmental resilience, and a forward-looking model for urban sustainability.
DeConna Ice Cream
PPM Solar engineered and installed a 794 kW ballasted ground-mount solar system at DeConna Ice Cream, offsetting 64.4% of the facility’s annual electricity use and delivering an estimated $2 million in lifetime savings. The system features 2,146 REC Solar PV modules, SMA Sunny Tripower CORE1 inverters, and Aerocompact’s G10 racking—designed for modular reliability, groundwater protection, and hurricane resistance up to 117 mph. PPM also coordinated with Duke Energy to upgrade aging infrastructure by installing a new 750 kVA transformer at no cost to DeConna, supporting future expansion. Additionally, PPM assisted in securing two USDA grants to reduce project and equipment upgrade costs.
UF Health Shands Hospital
PPM Solar installed a 100 kW solar energy system at UF Health Shands Hospital’s emergency room, featuring 285 high-efficiency SunPower modules and SolarEdge inverters with 144 power optimizers for panel-level performance optimization. Located near the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the project required careful coordination with hospital staff to ensure zero disruption to patient care. In addition to enhancing energy resilience, the system supports UF Health’s sustainability goals by reducing fossil fuel dependence and improving air quality for patients and the surrounding community.
Gainesville Health & Fitness
PPM Solar designed and installed a 530.59 kW rooftop solar system at Gainesville Health & Fitness, one of Florida’s busiest fitness centers. Featuring over 1,000 high-performance panels, the system produces approximately 787,220 kWh annually, significantly reducing grid dependency and delivering strong monthly savings and federal incentive-driven ROI. The system offsets emissions equivalent to burning 335,000 pounds of coal annually, underscoring GHF’s environmental leadership in the wellness sector. With over 4,000 daily patrons, PPM Solar carefully coordinated with facility staff to minimize disruptions, scheduling all utility shutdowns during off-peak hours, including 2 a.m. work windows.
OFAB Manufacturing
PPM Solar installed a 420 kW rooftop solar system at OFAB, a precision manufacturing facility in Ocala, Florida, supporting the company’s long-term sustainability and energy efficiency goals.
It features Trina Solar Vertex modules with 210mm wafers, multi-busbar architecture, and high-density interconnects—delivering over 600W per panel and module efficiencies up to 21.2%. Power is managed by SMA Sunny Tripower CORE1 inverters, known for advanced grid integration and low-maintenance operation. This installation reinforces OFAB’s leadership in sustainable manufacturing and demonstrates PPM Solar’s capability to deliver technically advanced, cost-effective energy systems for mission-critical industrial environments.
General RV
PPM Solar installed a 277 kW rooftop solar system at General RV’s Florida facility, offsetting approximately 35% of annual electricity use while operating entirely behind the meter to avoid unfavorable net metering conditions. PPM is currently developing a 1 MW system for General RV’s new North Carolina facility, extending its role as a trusted energy partner in the company’s multi-location sustainability strategy. The system includes high-efficiency Aptos DNA all-black modules—U.S.-manufactured and backed by a 30-year production warranty—paired with SMA America inverters for reliable performance. Panels were mounted using S-5! non-penetrating clamps to preserve roof integrity and maximize usable surface area.
Just Add Power
PPM Solar completed a 151 kW rooftop solar installation at Just Add Power’s Florida manufacturing facility, advancing the company’s sustainability initiatives in line with the AV industry’s shift toward low-carbon operations. The system utilizes Canadian Solar’s bifacial modules—delivering up to 665W and 21.4% efficiency—and SMA Sunny Tripower CORE1 inverters for high-performance, grid-integrated energy production. PPM Solar also provides ongoing operations and maintenance, including hurricane-related component replacements under warranty, to ensure long-term reliability and stable energy output.
Buckhalter AC
At Backhalter AC, PPM Solar installed black Tesla solar modules, among the most powerful residential photovoltaic modules. These high-efficiency panels require up to 20.9% fewer modules to achieve the same power output as standard systems, boasting high conversion efficiency and improved shade tolerance due to their half-cell architecture. The installation also features the versatile SMA Sunny Boy 7.7 Inverter, which can supply up to 2,000 W of power to a protected outlet during grid outages. This combination ensures maximum energy efficiency and reliability for Backhalter AC.
Jessica Clinton Park
PPM Solar partnered with Florida Power & Light (FPL) in 2018 to install a 100 kW solar carport at Jessica Clinton Park in Port St. Lucie, Florida, as part of the SolarNow® program. The project features Lumos Solar’s translucent modules on a custom-designed canopy, with concealed wiring and a sleek glass-and-steel aesthetic that provides both shade and a modern architectural presence. Located in a 20-acre community park, the solar array supports the city’s sustainability goals while offering visitors a real-world example of clean energy in action. The installation enhances the park’s amenities and contributes to broader public education on renewable energy.
SmarterStorage
This 117.78 kW rooftop array was installed in Gainesville, FL. Featuring SunPower solar modules and SMA inverters, this grid-interactive system is designed to offset 100% of the energy use of the storage facility that is feeding. This project also features non-penetrating metal roof attachments by S-5! Solar. By not having any roof penetrations for the structural attachments, a longer lifespan and reduced maintenance are achieved for decades to come.
