Contact UsJames Carr Goes Solar No Matter What The Obstacle
In our latest Customer Spotlight, we’re proud to feature James Carr, a distinguished Gainesville community figure with a deep-rooted security and communications background. James’ extensive experience, spanning over four decades, encompasses a wide range of expertise—from security alarm work to fire alarm systems, closed-circuit TV cameras, and his significant contributions to emergency HAM Radio repeaters. This expertise necessitates a robust technological setup, including critical computer servers that power his operations day and night. With an average monthly electric cost of $1000, James decided that going solar was his solution.
Overcoming Architectural Challenges for Solar Installation
James set a goal of 100% offset of his energy consumption. However, he discovered that due to his home’s unique architecture, featuring a flat roof with limited space, he faced significant challenges in deploying a single energy system array large enough to offset that vast $1000 per month electric bill. But James was determined to go solar.
James reached out to multiple solar installation firms, only to realize that these organizations preferred standard approaches and were not open to creating a unique blend of rooftop and ground-mounted systems tailored to his unique needs. Basically, none of these firms showed interest in developing a custom-designed system to meet his unique requirements—except for PPM Solar.

Achieving Energy Independence with PPM Solar
Reflecting on his experience, James expressed appreciation for PPM Solar’s commitment to crafting a solution that perfectly aligned with his unique requirements. Unlike other firms that shied away from the challenge, PPM Solar delved into the intricacies of his situation, designing a split system that ingeniously combined rooftop and ground-mounted installations. James underscored this exceptional service, noting, “PPM went to great lengths to meet the need.”
The completion of phase one, the rooftop portion of James’ solar project, has already had a significant impact, slashing his monthly electric bills to $400. This dramatic reduction from his previous bills, which soared to over a thousand dollars during peak summer months, marks a substantial stride towards energy and financial independence. The success of this initial phase not only fulfills a portion of James’ energy needs but also sets a solid foundation for the comprehensive energy solution he envisions.
James is optimistic about the completion of phase two (happening this month), the ground-mounted system, which he believes will propel him to a net-zero energy status. This anticipation rests on the premise that, with both phases operational, his reliance on grid-supplied electricity will be minimal, relegating his monthly expenses to the nominal GRU (Gainesville Regional Utilities) grid connectivity fee. Such a milestone would epitomize the ultimate goal of solar energy adoption – achieving independence from fluctuating energy costs and contributing to a more sustainable future.
