The Solar Quality Control Specialist is critical to maintaining the highest standards of workmanship, safety, and code compliance across all commercial and residential solar installations. This independent role involves conducting detailed site inspections, verifying system performance, reviewing documentation, and providing feedback to internal teams to ensure continuous improvement in quality. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager and Ownership, the Specialist will also provide quality control services to third-party solar contractors, with occasional travel within Florida.

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive site inspections at all stages (pre-installation, in-progress, and post-installation) to ensure compliance with design specifications, NEC codes, and company standards.
  • Perform system performance testing, including electrical checks and safety verifications, using specialized tools such as multimeters and IV curve tracers.
  • Review project documentation, including permits, compliance forms, and installation records, for accuracy and completeness.
  • Document deficiencies with precision and ensure that corrective actions are implemented effectively.
  • Maintain detailed quality control records and assist with project commissioning to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, and field crews to maintain quality throughout all project stages.
  • Provide completed checklists for all projects.
  • Conduct unannounced quality checks during ongoing projects to ensure consistent standards.
  • Perform physical tasks, including removing panels, opening electrical enclosures, and checking torque, as part of daily quality control activities.

Required skills & experience:

  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience with solar PV systems (installation, troubleshooting, or quality control) and in-depth knowledge of NEC electrical codes.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with testing tools such as multimeters, IV curve tracers, and thermal imaging, as well as experience in commissioning solar projects.
  • Ability to proficiently read and interpret solar design documents and single-line diagrams.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and communicate effectively with teams and leadership.

Tools & systems used:

  • Solar design documents and single-line diagrams.
  • Testing equipment: multimeters, IV curve tracers, thermal imaging devices, and drones.
  • Project management tools and CRM systems for tracking progress and communication.
  • Mobile inspection and reporting applications for real-time updates.

Additional requirements:

  • Prepared to perform hands-on tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, working at heights, and handling physically demanding activities daily.
  • Occasional travel within Florida may be required for third-party quality control assignments; a valid driver’s license and clean driving record are mandatory.
