PPM Staff Spotlight – Janet Westberry, Human Resources Manager

Janet Westberry, HR

PPM Solar is well-known in Florida for installing top-quality solar energy systems that save money and lower CO2 emissions. Less well-known are its administrative support systems and the people who run them. Janet Westberry is one of those individuals and our choice for this month’s Staff Spotlight.

Janet Westberry is an accomplished Human Resources Generalist with over 20 years of experience in human resource management. In addition to talent acquisition, Janet ensures PPM employees have the information they need regarding policies, benefits, and insurance. Janet is also a confidential resource for employees experiencing personal or professional difficulties. Her job is paramount to keeping the company operating; luckily for us, she loves what she does.

Janet received her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, with a minor in Human Resources, in 1996. Since then, she has worked in several industries, fine-tuning her HR skills. “Because human resources are exactly that, managing ‘humans,” she said with a laugh, “skills learned in other industries also easily apply to the solar/renewable energy world.”

Over the last year, Janet has successfully managed two significant changes to PPM’s outsourced payroll/HR companies, reviewed more than a thousand resumes for open positions, and created or updated policies to ensure compliance. “The best part of my job is getting to know the employees, finding out what motivates them, and working to make each of them successful.”

Having Janet as an HR manager has improved many aspects of the PPM operations, indicates Jason Gonos, PPM Solar co-owner. “I love her determination and hard-working approach. And we finally have an outstanding HR department. I know everyone is taken care of, and everyone’s opinion is heard with Janet on our team.”

Outside of PPM, Janet works with her husband on their farm, which she calls her favorite place in the world. They have two cats, three horses, four dogs, and many chickens and turkeys. “We have learned so much about growing our own foods and canning. It’s been an amazing journey!”
